The first step is to consider what you really want from a new dental practice. Are you hoping to find an office that you can get to more easily from work or from your home? Do you want a dentist that is in-network with your current dental insurance plan? Do you need a dentist for your entire family or just yourself? Are you looking for a specialist to perform a specific kind of procedure? By forming a concrete idea of what’s important to you, you can make the process of narrowing down the right practice much easier. Taylor Choice Dental gladly offers affordable care for patients of all ages, and we have a comprehensive menu of services to address all of your unique dental needs.
Do not panic; dental injuries require attention as soon as possible, but you will typically have multiple options for limiting the damage and controlling your pain at home while you’re waiting to see our emergency dentist . Call our office before you do anything else so that we can schedule an appointment for you; whenever possible, we’ll arrange to see you on the same day as your accident. We’ll also ask you to describe your symptoms and let you know what steps you can take to take care of your mouth at home. Continuous oral bleeding, fractured jaws, and swelling that blocks swallowing or breathing all need to be handled by the emergency room, so call 911 immediately for such symptoms.
While we do have many options for treating dental emergencies, we encourage you to take whatever steps you can to avoid such situations in the first place. You can’t always prevent accidents and injuries, of course, but wearing a mouthguard and avoiding bad habits like nail-biting can protect your teeth from damage. Also, remember to practice good oral hygiene at home so that you can mitigate the bacterial buildup that can lead to toothaches, gum disease, and other problems.
You should continue to schedule regular dental appointments even if you don’t think they can fit into your budget. Ignoring any existing dental issues for too long can lead to even more severe problems that will require even more time and money to fix. You can save money on your dental care if you have a dental insurance plan, and if you choose a dentist that’s in-network with your provider, you can receive even greater savings. Our practice in your area accepts many different insurance plans as well as Medicaid and CHIP, and we provide financing through CareCredit so that you can pay in monthly installments.
In the United States, anyone who wishes to be a dentist first needs to earn a bachelor’s degree before attending an accredited dental school to obtain a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences. It usually takes at least three years to complete dental school, during which time classroom and hands-on training is performed. Any dental professional that wants to become a specialist in one of the 12 specializations recognized by the ADA can expect an additional 3 years of training. But the training does not end there; to keep their dental licenses, all dentists need to complete a certain number of continuing education hours annually.
